Let\u2019s imagine that you\u2019re ready to rob a bank. Maybe you\u2019re a bank robber with a heart of gold, that\u2019s trying to raise money for your sick kid.<\/span><\/h1>\n

You know, sort\u2019ve like John Q?<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Maybe you\u2019re just doing it for kicks. Maybe you\u2019re the average everyday robber and you just want to get some cash.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Either way, you get in front of the bank teller, the biggest, most inefficient movie handgun ever sticking out of your pocket. And you pass her a note.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Dear friend.<\/span><\/p>\n

Once upon a time, I was exactly like you.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

I had a nine to five job, quietly SEETHING at my lack of fulfillment in life. I worked on filling out legal documents for some nameless corporate overlords, but I knew there HAD to be a better way. I was at the end of my rope! And then I got weird advice from an even weirder source: and it changed my life forever.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

What\u2019s the major takeaway from this? Your copy can\u2019t afford to waffle. People will tune out. Want to see what actual bank robbers do when it\u2019s all on the line? I ran across a blog called\u00a0Bank Notes<\/a>, and it\u2019s entirely comprised of the little notes that people pass to the bank teller when they\u2019re robbing a bank.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

When we talk about writing sales material, we want the prospect to have a clear mental vision of success, and a clear mental vision of failure. Having this creepy looking dude storming back in the bank looking for you is\u00a0no bueno.\u00a0<\/em>Let him be somebody else\u2019s problem.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

<\/span>Keep Sentences Short<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Plz don\u2019t make me\/Just hand over your cash<\/strong>No Dye Packs! No problems<\/strong>Just do it<\/strong>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

I don\u2019t know what\u2019s going on with the haiku slash, but none of these notes have any big words or long sentences. On the internet, paper is free. But here, every inch matters. None of these tellers are going to ask \u201chuh, what\u2019s going on??\u201d at the end of ANY sentence that they read here. That\u2019s important.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

This isn\u2019t an argument against long copy.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

But understand that whether you\u2019re writing a sales letter or a tweet or a robbery note, you can\u2019t afford to waste time. You\u2019re not always going to have bank robber efficiency\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

But you\u00a0can\u00a0<\/strong>do something these guys didn\u2019t do: sit your ass down and THINK before you act.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n
