Of course &#8211; nowhere is &#8220;inexpensive&#8221; in rapidly gentrifying Atlanta.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-737bfc712bac46e6b35955851a53c24e\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">But I don&#8217;t have <em>shit<\/em> to complain about. 2022 has been a wild and weird ride for everybody &#8211; and I figure everybody in the world is dealing with something where they&#8217;d be jealous of my life and position. Doing a little manual labor doesn&#8217;t exactly squash that out.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-665be5c5263c49e88b4131d63ac271e0\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">I spent some of my time putting together my case studies and work as a freelancer &#8211; and reaching out to people I\u2019ve worked with in the past. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-89c19f4ecca74d719ca8ce28036b756c\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\"><strong>Well, Brandyn, why not pop out a couple of tweets during the morning? Well: <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-34bb747309a6409da165e22a8b484b17\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">I was ALSO working on my business during the morning and securing a couple of clients. I&#8217;d made an appointment funnel &#8211; so I would wake up, wash my ass, take business calls for an hour and a half, and hop on MARTA to a work site.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-01a19b28553548ba8a5dbf0073c06ddd\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">From there, it was:<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<ul class=\"notion-bulleted-list\">\n<li id=\"block-12aff1a1ed3346708d4de0eb0032b7da\" class=\"notion-list-item\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">knocking X number of doors, <\/span><\/li>\n<li id=\"block-4f9a7db845a742829113eb6922cdae33\" class=\"notion-list-item\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">giving a spiel to Y people that answered it, <\/span><\/li>\n<li id=\"block-7fa04dd8bba7474293cc736b4e8e9fca\" class=\"notion-list-item\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">and getting Z number of responses. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"block-a52667174dc8434a8003be51929db27a\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">For obvious reasons, the mechanics of sprinting through neighborhoods, shaking off the colorful locals and getting to the next house was way more important to me than election analysis.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-f3b2fc3ccc22410bab144fa68f46cb87\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">It was a nice experience in terms of helping me stay in shape, polish my face to face sales skills, and I know way more about managing a canvass, which will be really important in the future. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-75dc15d1d86c426dacc12d94cdecf048\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">I performed really well, everybody loved me.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-b6367d4fc5634e83b8383a1430a7b776\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">On the negative side I mean, my physical body was always in motion. And also, you&#8217;re knocking doors, in Atlanta, after dark.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-45dc104f4389463084c0c2f8722c83fb\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">I would get at least one death threat a night (I mean, yeah), and my group (mostly of black folks from inside the perimeter, going to swing districts of \u201cvaluable\u201d voters in gated communities) was dealing with constant police action &#8211; to the point that we were calling departments ahead of our arriving. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-1a64c5d12fc54965af59e67f9eba5e86\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Anyway, I&#8217;m getting to a point where I couldn&#8217;t really do &#8220;both&#8221;, being together in the morning, coming in at night &#8211; just way too much. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-60a9ba12d25e4d30a786ac708848bfde\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Anyway, by the time I got home, I needed to put my mind and body into the next day\u2019s action, and didn&#8217;t really have bandwidth for anything else. I don&#8217;t know how much detail I need to go into about &#8220;being working class&#8221;.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-875cde0e5875475cad7053f6658a2b9a\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Most of you reading this are in a different color of the same boat, so let&#8217;s move on. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-1ffd409d253941f4ba392aee40ae2444\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">I know a lot of you are following me because you&#8217;re interested in the Georgia elections, so here&#8217;s the goods on that situation:<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h1 id=\"block-91886b0092134ccbb3ece54ef02cc3c1\" class=\"notion-heading\"><span id=\"91886b0092134ccbb3ece54ef02cc3c1\" class=\"notion-heading__anchor\"><\/span><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">I knocked over 2,500 doors in Greater Atlanta. Asking people about the elections this fall.<\/span><\/h1>\n<div id=\"block-f856c4a31bd642e2bf752b7cf65e69cb\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">I came away with:<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-f6cc10f1581048219b6d95ab8d56e6ab\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Nightly death threats<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-d592821b4d5f4982b1d1391649f29f30\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Run-ins with the Atlanta Police Department<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-ca63437a1bd3481dbb4b8a6ba6748000\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">And eight observations you\u2019ll be able to use in your own communities:<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-7cb39881406c44228aa76f32472372ee\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\">\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-b20e99d1cd1849feba7681860cbab237\" class=\"notion-image page-width\"><picture><source srcset=\"https:\/\/super-static-assets.s3.amazonaws.com\/10c18fe4-fb17-42e6-9ca4-e50c71208c2b\/images\/e4c9a0b1-4afa-40aa-ae7b-16ccbf046c05.jpg?w=750&amp;f=webp\" type=\"image\/webp\" media=\"(max-width: 546px)\" \/><source src=\"https:\/\/super-static-assets.s3.amazonaws.com\/10c18fe4-fb17-42e6-9ca4-e50c71208c2b\/images\/e4c9a0b1-4afa-40aa-ae7b-16ccbf046c05.jpg?w=750\" media=\"(max-width: 546px)\" \/><source srcset=\"https:\/\/super-static-assets.s3.amazonaws.com\/10c18fe4-fb17-42e6-9ca4-e50c71208c2b\/images\/e4c9a0b1-4afa-40aa-ae7b-16ccbf046c05.jpg?w=1500&amp;f=webp\" type=\"image\/webp\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/super-static-assets.s3.amazonaws.com\/10c18fe4-fb17-42e6-9ca4-e50c71208c2b\/images\/e4c9a0b1-4afa-40aa-ae7b-16ccbf046c05.jpg?w=1500\" alt=\"image\" width=\"1500\" \/><\/picture><\/div>\n<h1 id=\"block-d3034831e6dc4097bb732708c556f5b9\" class=\"notion-heading\"><span id=\"d3034831e6dc4097bb732708c556f5b9\" class=\"notion-heading__anchor\"><\/span><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Doors Don\u2019t Mean That Much<\/span><\/h1>\n<div id=\"block-1ef9b3817c704a22a971e001481f3d50\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">It matters to the condition of my shoes (which were fuuuucked uuuup after all of that walking), but ultimately, these are just metrics used to appease powerful political donors. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-741525f00b6a4ef88f408a29e088dea3\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">They need a number that sounds good at parties (not to mention future fundraising), BUT &#8211; are there people behind those doors? Are there full families behind those doors? Are all of them going out there?<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-548cbcaa1e434efeb911a38a47c9b647\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">It&#8217;s a number that&#8217;s really exciting for the donors that fund these kinds of efforts, but like most jobs, whenever you&#8217;re chasing a number, systems tend to fail around it.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-6d5739f0d47748d4887a131f49c71588\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Especially in an election where there\u2019s one group that\u2019s struggling with engagement. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-29eb4dda9d6a4103bb0080e84d2ece0a\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">It\u2019s going to take multiple contacts to get folks from barely knowing what\u2019s going on, to actually engaging with the news, to actually going out there and casting a ballot.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-280a4f861ca34400a98ce6d7b66b68c7\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">I guess we\u2019ll see whether the collected flood of mailers and postcards and flyers and knocks make that overall effect on people.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h1 id=\"block-651a839bc6c8462ca2696d072f75594f\" class=\"notion-heading\"><span id=\"651a839bc6c8462ca2696d072f75594f\" class=\"notion-heading__anchor\"><\/span><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Republican Voters Know What\u2019s Up.<\/span><\/h1>\n<div id=\"block-ef36fd5f2fb24ae2b17cc32e8f5b1498\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">I wasn\u2019t just hanging around one neighborhood in Atlanta &#8211; I was going across the state from dingy apartments on Howell Mill to knocking on mansions in Alpharetta, and those guys are happy as hell with how things are going.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-45065fe1d6fd48dd844a1815dbddc26c\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">One, the economy has been great for those guys. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-3ed0a41db6674d7fbd87deaa41e91b03\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">I talked to a guy who said he \u201cwas causing the housing crisis\u201d with a big smile on his face. And as I talked to him, he said he was \u201cglad he was born rich so he didn\u2019t have to worry about this stuff\u201d. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-7dc934032edb48988f8083412ac7b8d0\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Got one on one time with lots of Kemp voters, they gave him a lot of credit for being independent and standing up to Trump. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-129cd270075c4472a6e7fcbf8da49530\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Now to be honest, if the house had bumper stickers that sounded like QAnon &#8211; you know, shit like Bill Gates and the vaccine and shit like that, I usually skipped those houses. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-764e95bced354da9bc901d2883c78d0b\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">I&#8217;m not trying to get locked in anybody&#8217;s basement if I can help it. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-88c172221eff403ea4b8ae5ed3d2ec86\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">But I was knocking MAGA\/thin blue line doors. Let&#8217;s be honest, most of those folks are boomers, and their homicidal rage is towards some imaginary, sepia toned template of a person.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-2411bf8cf04f4ec199fb9a4723aae641\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">And they&#8217;ve got too much cash to do anything newsworthy. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-a29002b1d7da460f9817d556a98e7a0b\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">And\u2026 I&#8217;m getting paid no matter what them people got to say to me.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-7c33973ba6e44c9c825dce19647c8caf\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Anyway, I know we think of people who listen to right-wing media as raving idiots, but most of them just calmly repeat those things as they\u2019ve become their world view. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-4bd6286a9e154a3e901c15a02787fd83\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">This was a big takeaway for me personally. Once you leave the really loud people at the top of the right wing information sphere, it filters down not just to people who repeat myths uncritically, but people who just adapt pieces and slices into \u201cthings people are saying\u201d in their worldview. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-c0284261c6c14e4c980bc7f5a3e01fdc\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Conspiratorial stuff about election theft were kind of treated with a wink and a glare. They know who they\u2019re in a coalition with &#8211; but they also know their material interests. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-5854be66b4d841d8b1cfde8e3a772c85\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">What are you gonna do? <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h1 id=\"block-00f6b6702f3c4b1183ade1fdcf2c0c22\" class=\"notion-heading\"><span id=\"00f6b6702f3c4b1183ade1fdcf2c0c22\" class=\"notion-heading__anchor\"><\/span><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Everyone Hates Herschel Walker.<\/span><\/h1>\n<div id=\"block-7c6f0963d7734643afb0fbef9a549c90\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">The same \u201cHerschel Walker\u201d got so many incredulous looks from people. The phrase \u201che\u2019s an embarrassment\u201d was used just over and over again.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-c9813547654e4aa6a04cfef5bf3d0e45\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">I found maybe one Black person who hasn&#8217;t disgusted by Walker. I ran into black Republicans that were happy with Kemp and still ashamed of that guy.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-996050b834084a7ca11d1055a1c1dda1\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Even Republican voters were embarrassed by him. Lots of people just described him as \u201cthat other guy\u201d or got a sudden interest in their shoelaces when he came up. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-2cb64e31dd0a4ad6a552e85aa05a75ca\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">On the other side, he was just getting slammed everywhere. Embarrassment was definitely the lead descriptor, but I haven&#8217;t heard the word coon employed so much outside of Twitter spaces. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-0509818f77ad4be5a27aff773db69e87\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Idiot, moron, clown, take your pick.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-8af43316b08e4b74928068051f9e04d1\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">That doesn\u2019t mean they won\u2019t vote for him when they\u2019re in the privacy of a booth? It just means I talked to literally a thousand people and maybe one of them could talk confidently about Walker being good. LOL.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-b88a26c9242442a1bab396a2765f48c0\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">If he has a base, it\u2019s way out in the country, like over 90 minutes from the Atlanta area.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h1 id=\"block-26da940934d14e34b2c2f45e5c360b20\" class=\"notion-heading\"><span id=\"26da940934d14e34b2c2f45e5c360b20\" class=\"notion-heading__anchor\"><\/span><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Stacey Abrams. \u201cSmart.\u201d<\/span><\/h1>\n<div id=\"block-78be7146a7c5405fac26f95012ba9255\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">On the flipside, There\u2019s not a lot of spicy quotes when you ask people why they\u2019re voting for Abrams. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-25995048d4f74a10aad55fcf7eb90c2d\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">It reminds me a lot of the things people said about Elizabeth Warren in 2020. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-7987b0d1f74248babbe5ec991b5697f4\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">She&#8217;s smart, she seems nice, she\u2019ll help all the people. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-323402fb30f64399a61968fe9b6e8ed3\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">I&#8217;d also ask what they wanted from her in the case of the election, and few people were specific. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-e7819ae53dad489299dfde46607d1d12\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">There were people who mentioned some of the political issues that Kemp was dragging his feet on like healthcare funding and housing assistance, but definitely not as many as you would hope.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-2bbc759d0c954d3b95f33d411663863e\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Civic obligation and \u201cwe need change\u201d were said way more often. Maybe that&#8217;s a good thing &#8211; Georgia still has a conservative state legislature and anything \u201cbipartisan\u201d that comes out of there is probably going to screw normal people over.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-07f54fda6b56440a885da12850c9a963\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">The people who were most effusive were people who knew her personally or were socially adjacent to her. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-74e82d0de2ee4f03962ece0211f71ad5\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">People who went to Spelman, or worked with her campaign manager and people like that. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-72fa2e5d80ae49dfa388976457a23957\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Could just be part of challenging an incumbent?<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h1 id=\"block-fb49bfed9df64ce797882c50a646bb99\" class=\"notion-heading\"><span id=\"fb49bfed9df64ce797882c50a646bb99\" class=\"notion-heading__anchor\"><\/span><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">\u201cEverything\u201d Beats Every Issue\u2026<\/span><\/h1>\n<div id=\"block-ac7419d8a2fe4bc8b20aa50785e88129\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">It was pretty tough to get people to talk about specific issues that impacted them &#8211; if you ask people what\u2019s impacting them in society, the most common answer is to just say \u201ceverything\u2019s messed up\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-dd5a6c4992d94746b8235e8e734c4b90\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">You\u2019ve really got to dig say, in terms of policy, the specific issues I heard most often &#8211; outside of racial justice, which we could fill out as \u201cOther\u201d ;) &#8211; was women\u2019s rights and gun control.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-d813f58cad11416187f0bbf75b4a4554\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Kemp did a whole lot with circulating guns in the state and open carry laws. I didn&#8217;t run into a lot of people who talked about defense of the second amendment, but I did find a lot of people who were democrats and pinned rising crime rates on him.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-4011d722017440418fcfb3a65a1e0286\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">If Abrams does end up winning the election, it\u2019ll be because a lot of women were motivated to interrupt their routine and cast a ballot. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-4ed5813bff3048d5b7c45d2e17730511\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Neighborhoods have definitely changed &#8211; and it was interesting going to places that were all white when I was a kid and are 50\/50 now, or neighborhoods that were black 10 years ago and have been priced out and either displaced or empty now.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h1 id=\"block-ec69807f78d44eb4ac92b60c2c32e7e0\" class=\"notion-heading\"><span id=\"ec69807f78d44eb4ac92b60c2c32e7e0\" class=\"notion-heading__anchor\"><\/span><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">\u201cNothing\u201d Is Beating Everything<\/span><\/h1>\n<div id=\"block-ecc75f65d3ed45e9bc50f7fd1fe37cc5\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">It was rarer to find people whose politics had grown to a point of frustration with both political parties. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-cbedf262612342729b639f7a4aaf0282\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">I remember talking to a Green Party candidate who said, well, X percent of people don\u2019t vote, just get those people and you win.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-a62670865e2c4aed8e0e376b46833992\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">And really, I wish people luck in doing that. People aren\u2019t disengaged because they haven\u2019t heard of societal problems!<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-cdda430a72d5453bbf4bd56caf689eb2\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">If your vision for the future requires \u201can engaged population\u201d, then things are probably going to get worse before they get better.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-1b4ded0a058f41ada474fa11dec5e127\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">People aren\u2019t apolitical like they\u2019ve never heard of politics &#8211; they\u2019re apolitical like, politics exist exclusively to fuck them over, and they want to be the group that does the fucking instead of getting it.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-b4b238e60c0c461dbce401d44ba006c6\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">I often asked people who were \u201cnot interested in politics\u201d whether they wanted a better candidate or just didn&#8217;t care, and just don&#8217;t care was running away with it.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-684f4277c6e14e46a69bdb846a9a6705\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">The problem is not so much getting people to understand the problems of the political system, which I think everybody understands at some level, but getting them to realize their individual agency and the potential for action on a local and community level. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-7832368273c34a048d6bbaec4add2cf9\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">That (like anything else) requires regular touches, engagement, communication. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h1 id=\"block-9320c45994364f91b68f61abf14cc549\" class=\"notion-heading\"><span id=\"9320c45994364f91b68f61abf14cc549\" class=\"notion-heading__anchor\"><\/span><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Lasting change requires more than just the funding at X period of time. <\/span><\/h1>\n<div id=\"block-210645cc14e742df84a16fe864af01b5\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">It requires a cultural infrastructure that stretches into your lifestyle.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-a295b417e9034d899cbfcd004ddc0cd2\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">You can\u2019t count on the political class to do that. There\u2019s way (way) (way) too much money flying overhead and &#8211; plenty of this money is flying in from outside to \u201ca swing state\u201d\u2026 but it\u2019s just electoral politics. It ramps up before, it dies down after\u2026 I mean, you get it. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-50b3d23c53e84467985a5f92f64d6c2b\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">There\u2019s a second class of people who just get that \u201cthings are bad\u201d &#8211; they\u2019re probably not going to subscribe themselves to an ideology but they\u2019re willing to support individual courses of action that sound good and tangibly move the ball forward. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-1db5410696f448959ffb30de10d1f85f\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">I see a lot of room for growth in those people, but it\u2019s going to take the kind of in depth and repeated engagement that most political machines aren\u2019t interested in right now. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-785ffbefd1a043a2861b3d1e5a8bd525\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Those people are going to work, coming home. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-9ba2c2366ea844b3bc7fe5bedc5fcbd7\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">People understand instinctually that everything is messed up, that everything is connected, and that systems of oppression are designed to plug into each other. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-afd0206bb6724639be85eac571a32dbb\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">The bigger problem is not so much convincing them about corruption in the political system, but convincing them to like, care about it. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-3f8ebbae5c524bdc9a22fd91b6aa4548\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">I&#8217;m not predicting either election because Atlanta and the surrounding areas (even as far as an hour out) aren&#8217;t the entire state.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-0e159e31e77e45fb967485ee227c2a46\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">On top of that, I think police and real estate developers have enough power in the state &#8211; and it doesn&#8217;t look like anybody is going to the root of the problems around here.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h1 id=\"block-984d2df003bc40d4bc706878f642fa0d\" class=\"notion-heading\"><span id=\"984d2df003bc40d4bc706878f642fa0d\" class=\"notion-heading__anchor\"><\/span><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Geography Is Important<\/span><\/h1>\n<div id=\"block-903f31aeb6ee43b884e7e2b29c706614\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Holy shit, did I go all this way to say politics is local? \ud83e\udd12<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-fb4d1535349144b9add326b46807064d\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Yeah, where you are is all important. I mean, it\u2019s a sales company that didn\u2019t do a lot in the way of background checks.
