You\u2019re going to be flooded with pitches, opportunities, and distractions. But the real factors that will make you rock it in business are kind of simple. They\u2019re not as small as a single blog post can make it sound, because there are a lot of subfactors that go into them. But you can go a long way by putting your focus on these elements.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

<\/span>List Building<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

\n

Your list is where long-term, traffic and relationships are coming from. Google\u2019s not going to bump you off the planet with an algo update, you\u2019re not going to have to feed it with dollar after dollar after dollar, Facebook\u2019s not going to kill you off with some weird update to their TOS.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

It\u2019s all about finding people and helping them out, and the format makes it easier to write in a one-to-one fashion. That\u2019s the bottom block that everything is based on.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

<\/span>Networking<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n
\n

I\u2019ve historically always hated talking to people and asking them for help with anything. I\u2019ve always been really big on propriety \u2013 and even though I wouldn\u2019t have any problem helping somebody who needed it, it\u2019s weird being on the other end. I ran into a saying (I wish I remember who specifically did it so I could credit them \u2013 any takers?)\u2026 that your success is the number of people you\u2019ve helped multiplied by the amount that you help them.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

So, I can go off the wall giving help to someone, but it\u2019s still just one person. I want to be helpful with people that I find, and I want to be helpful\u00a0through others too. That\u00a0<\/em>means networking inside my community and finding people who have a grip on these skills that we\u2019re discussing here.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

That\u2019s a painstaking process, and there\u2019s a \u201cspinning plates\u201d effect that can come from trying to everyone in different ways at once. What I mean here is that just doing what\u2019s right by other marketers (recommending every single product under the sun) isn\u2019t going to be the best for your customers. And what\u2019s good for some customers isn\u2019t going to be good for all of them. And niching everything down and getting everything segmented down isn\u2019t always time effective for YOU.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

<\/span>The Written Word<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n
\n

I looked at a thread on WarriorForum for FREE BLOG PROMOTION, you input your blog address and something something something magical\u00a0FairyPonies<\/em>\u00a0and you get opt-ins. No interest in joining up, but as an experiment I went a few pages back and looked at some of the sites that were posted in the thread months ago. I looked for the quality of the content and consistency.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

I think that most content online, especially sales and marketing material\u2026 is stuff you\u2019ll look at for a quarter of a second. Your brain says\u00a0NOPE in a really loud voice\u00a0<\/em>and you move on to wacky cat videos. So a large portion of your success online (unless you\u2019re investing in something like PPC) is about your ability to\u00a0write\u00a0<\/em>in a way that conveys trust and credibility.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

That means really digging into the crafts of copywriting and storytelling. Reading about it, writing about it, and doing it.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

<\/span>Product Creation<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n
\n

The relentless hype about needing to create your own products is very, very real. If there\u2019s one thing that I\u2019m going to be doing a LOT more of in the future, it\u2019s this. So many of the top flight affiliate marketers have got a range of products in a range of niches. It\u2019s all about making stuff that has practical utility.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Outside the IM niche there\u2019s still lots of value in \u201chow to\u201d material, and organizing, researching, writing, and distributing those products is a skill that everyone should develop. It\u2019s not just about creating products, it\u2019s about launching them and getting them into as many hands as possible.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

<\/span>Market Research<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n
\n

I know that usually, market research extends to customers. Engaging with customers and figuring out what they want can do a lot for your business, but it\u2019s also important to research other marketers. I try to sign up for mailing lists, read autoresponders, followup sequences, and everything that helps me be a better \u201cstudent of the game\u201d. There are lots of ways to do it, and I\u2019m always interested in reading how other people are getting things done.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

And when it comes to the internet, it\u2019s really important to remember how transparent everything is \u2013 it can be a serious help (as long as you\u2019re not scooping up people\u2019s home address and sending them things that explode in the mail)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

<\/span>Consistent Execution<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n
\n

Knowledge isn\u2019t everything \u2013 execution is.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Growth isn\u2019t always linear.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

What I mean to say is, Wednesday isn\u2019t always better than Tuesday isn\u2019t better than Monday. There\u2019s setbacks. Other people will throw a monkey wrench in your life \u2013 and your own screwups will damage things too.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

But there\u2019s nothing that hurts your business and your life more than getting emotional over one or two of these screwups and letting it impact your ability to EXECUTE consistently, quickly, and well.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

<\/span>Being Interesting<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n
\n

I don\u2019t think you can be a good writer\u2026 or a good\u00a0anything<\/em>\u00a0if you\u2019re hanging around your house all day commenting on blogs and reading message boards, you\u2019re going to write boring, repetitive mush. The stuff you DO is what makes your writing stand out.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

This isn\u2019t a \u201cnot in the budget\u201d kind of situation. There\u2019s something you can hop off your ass and\u00a0do<\/em>\u00a0even if you\u2019ve just got bus fair or can hoof it around the block. There\u2019s a church to volunteer at, a free meeting or screening in town (just pick up an \u201calternative paper\u201d in town and flip away from the ads for fetish clubs for a few seconds), or somebody that\u2019s worth talking to.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

That\u2019s not to say that there isn\u2019t\u00a0anything<\/em>\u00a0you can do online that will make you cooler or make you a better conversationalist. But I think it\u2019s worth making a concerted effort to leave the house, and if it means you\u2019re spending a little less time on blog posts, so be it.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

I haven\u2019t perfected ANY of these aspects. But I\u00a0have\u00a0<\/em>had enough success to know that MORE success is possible. I work hard to tie all the skills I\u2019ve got together and apply them at INSANE levels.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

No matter where you\u2019re at in your development of these skills, it\u2019s so much more important to GET MOVING NOW than it is to wait until you\u2019ve perfected every aspect of your business and your life.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
