They weren\u2019t the richest people &#8211; who were reporting lots of family infighting and stress. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-891d1a7c6d2246218d78245151bab6ed\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">These theater people, they were history geeks, they were living with ups and downs &#8211; and didn&#8217;t feel they&#8217;d wasted a minute. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-1f5f1445a4044a0f99e598202a715264\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">He interviews them and finds that all of them can answer these questions:<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<ul class=\"notion-bulleted-list\">\n<li id=\"block-8fd5ca38d73647368cca2d7882a39bd5\" class=\"notion-list-item\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Who They Were<\/span><\/li>\n<li id=\"block-37e11ad7370f4342b6bfd790b9203366\" class=\"notion-list-item\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">What You Do?<\/span><\/li>\n<li id=\"block-a2221287d3bc472b915a6b774fcbe734\" class=\"notion-list-item\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Who Is It For?<\/span><\/li>\n<li id=\"block-748e0d403a98406cb2bdc9a4ddab71ad\" class=\"notion-list-item\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">What Do They Want?<\/span><\/li>\n<li id=\"block-6b16108f33d848bc973c469eee243a9a\" class=\"notion-list-item\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">How Do They Change?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"block-601cb70c791c4c24a99a8a596a0bae15\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">And here&#8217;s the thing to point out: 80% of that is for other people.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-6380754875874e228ac06441499aabfe\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">The speaker says it\u2019s 60% but let\u2019s be honest here &#8211;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-b598f86d9b4146cf818d400715b61997\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Most people say \u201cwhat you do\u201d and think of work. Right? I&#8217;d say it&#8217;s 80%.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-d4eeca82608042728c326626e3f7f6b8\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">People who know their lives purpose and find identity in how they serve others are happier. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-fa4e901320134761ba57edd0e00d6987\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">But you know, if somebody asked me my life&#8217;s purpose\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-43cc36cc6b674ae99c4428add377d176\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">I don&#8217;t know if I would give my elevator pitch.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-e5d755eb8170488e8cc0c2c1f38e59db\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">How much does what you do for people, and the impact you have on them, overlap with what you believe your life&#8217;s purpose to be? <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h1 id=\"block-f3f7be7e3c75465f979905ffd1fc5a1c\" class=\"notion-heading\"><span id=\"f3f7be7e3c75465f979905ffd1fc5a1c\" class=\"notion-heading__anchor\"><\/span><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\"><span class=\"highlighted-color color-green\">Earning Your Pat On The Head<\/span><\/span><\/h1>\n<div id=\"block-93861e851afb423fabb22b374869f040\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">I watched a couple episodes of House, and this guy is a lot less charming. I feel like I\u2019m reading webcomic-type humor. You know, House dissecting everybody with le epic intellect. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-f77cd6611e0341348cf770ca5695a0c3\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">When I watched this show as a kid, I always thought of these other characters as annoyances that got in the way of the action, but now I feel a different way.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-366a2cae46b04425b9be8abb4172fbf0\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Now\u2026 I feel for all of those characters a little more. Nobody wants to be trapped in the whims of some self-proclaimed supergenius.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-158ade6e2a084a09a5c1e1342fd7ad8e\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">In COMPLETELY UNRELATED NEWS, many of y\u2019all have met me on Twitter but I\u2019m trying to do more LinkedIn\/Newsletter style content.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-17f9b2a0f8bd4e9a9017f10a0de4fbe2\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">It feels a little melt-downy over there so I\u2019m gonna try and diversify my bonds.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-38b1c536930445f79e0d5815a8b5d4d1\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">I love being able to write bite-sized little nuggets and then put my phone down for a week before any of that weird pollution infects my mind\u2026 but all of these engineers are gonna be out of work, I wanna make some new contacts. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-31e05ae1e20b4c6ea7e0b7606728a86a\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">And in the meantime, I\u2019m sharing the most interesting things I learn during the week. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-e1aa0a48c8e14617a44faec7d8285f29\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">I\u2019m working a lot and taking a lot of calls with people who want to improve this or that facet in their business.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-bed94870cde348e3a4d9fb3495b91db0\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\"><strong>So you can expect a lot of published material on personal development, lifestyle design, social media management, informed by whatever I\u2019m really doing in the field. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-d37ddc68083b45878ca8fd1db935010a\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Happy holidays. You won\u2019t always get that pat on the head the second you demand it, but it\u2019ll come. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-3a50a50a815a44c7bbdcdde21702ea19\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">And listen, we don\u2019t all know for sure what <em>kind<\/em> of stuff people are going to eventually fall in love with. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-9ed47a5879754084a9241df196a5ee95\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">So as I work, I\u2019m also experimenting with post-formats. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-ff978e1baa4e446aa82834ddee48d5dd\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Short like a tweet, long form like a YouTube video, medium like a podcast?<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h1 id=\"block-4b2c9b4363504dc3a0794330cbbeac78\" class=\"notion-heading\"><span id=\"4b2c9b4363504dc3a0794330cbbeac78\" class=\"notion-heading__anchor\"><\/span><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\"><span class=\"highlighted-color color-green\">The First Episodes<\/span><\/span><\/h1>\n<div id=\"block-84b8237e357e4f97924f8275113633ec\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">I&#8217;m very (very) slowly making a new podcast. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-8f6c76bea014435c8611129cb89623b7\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">In my experience, the best episodes are ones where there&#8217;s research and time put into it. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-e9276366690e458893282c31eee03546\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Big secret from the world of podcasting &#8211; that first episode is usually the one that gets the most interaction. No matter what you make, people always go back and check out the first episode to see what it\u2019s all about.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-9b1ddbc3733f4cef95defa0425e471d2\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">So I want to make sure that everything I publish has got some detailed notes and a sense of focus.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-1a204b238ac44fa5bf11fa528b0a7520\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Not that I don\u2019t love long conversations &#8211; but instead of doing deep dives with friends and contacts, I think I want to really cut to the chase\u2026 <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-2260359be4a049b69d37c752f0eaa5ce\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">With people that might be getting to know me for the first time.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h1 id=\"block-ce842e9c688b4a4498d6e654cd9212b0\" class=\"notion-heading\"><span id=\"ce842e9c688b4a4498d6e654cd9212b0\" class=\"notion-heading__anchor\"><\/span><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\"><span class=\"highlighted-color color-green\">Where Do I Get Ideas?<\/span><\/span><\/h1>\n<div id=\"block-39bba03732814aa6bb7c1c951c5de5d4\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">i\u2019m a millenial and there was always one guy who typed like this in every web forum. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-1195b5f964f542d6b506f5f0f5437af0\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">and you respected that guy, he was very smart. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-22686f8d6ff04ebc878547255ecca4b5\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">And because of that guy, I don\u2019t sweat too much worrying <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-3fba30580d36469cbc767651041b594d\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">It\u2019s a good time to talk about the newsletter format. What happened, why\u2019d I choose it? And what went wrong? <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-9085d03b2601410f96d3177906b151cd\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Now when I get older, I find that advice I ignored actually paid off, but because now I\u2019m boomer, I\u2019m cringe, I\u2019m mid &#8211; and as a pro poster, I still have to post. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<ul class=\"notion-bulleted-list\">\n<li id=\"block-c9ed167b98c44e66a9c096634323cb11\" class=\"notion-list-item\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\"><strong>Experiences in real life.<\/strong> I am always encouraging\/asking people to schedule a call with me. Generally if somebody is motivated enough to talk to me, they\u2019re dealing with some actual problems and have tried things to fix it already &#8211; which automatically is something worth thinking about or posting about.<\/span><\/li>\n<li id=\"block-806ae33e952c4fdfac60efd5ad96136b\" class=\"notion-list-item\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\"><strong>Sources that are outside of the web. <\/strong>Books are great. Sure, you\u2019re not getting up to the minute information, but you\u2019re going through layers of editing and ideas have more polish than the usual LinkedIn post. <\/span><\/li>\n<li id=\"block-933a9d1c964c49a2ad664e983fc5b835\" class=\"notion-list-item\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\"><strong>Where is the drama? <\/strong>It\u2019s rare that I\u2019m telling you something you don\u2019t know or haven\u2019t heard of. I look for a lot of obscure niche drama. Like, everybody knows about Kanye West having a meltdown this week. I listen to local sports radio pretty regularly &#8211; especially for losing franchises and teams. <\/span><\/li>\n<li id=\"block-c26f5a9193fb44a0be500018afe9ec56\" class=\"notion-list-item\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\"><strong>YouTube Premium: <\/strong>I\u2019m not listening to \u201crise and grind\u201d people during the week. But I do like background noise like documentaries with high production values, or people giving hour explainer videos into things like world cup teams or fashion lines or imported 80\u2019s horror movies.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"block-820d936b6d974433aab818c10443e0d2\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Those people are so creative about the art they produce that it&#8217;s incredible. We don\u2019t all listen to each others podcasts! hate to break it to ya.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-bd489df2306d4ff6aba422276f2bb1e4\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">You don\u2019t need to enslave yourself to business content, but you should at least care enough to sit down seven times during the week and say \u201chey, i want to work on that and reflect about it later\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-0aad743b96974364aafc27be9381f65a\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Invest a couple of hours of well directed time a week into yourself. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-73e49b038cdc4f42a421a49b011d65ce\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\">\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-298f5d0c2ba349e6a1682602ee3c8ce0\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">The goal is that if I do this long enough, I\u2019m going to find somebody who is fanatically interested in me and how I work and they\u2019ll want to fit me in.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-e3479c0159d94d70b834f12b366fd53d\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">I personally don\u2019t want to spend the next run of my career explaining what I do or how it benefits people, so having all this right at hand is the way forward.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-09a12cfec9a14af8b8b0d3030b523ec5\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">You\u2019d better have it explained exactly the way you want it done. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-a80249446c004f66ae2a392b05c31a94\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">And I also like to look back at things I\u2019ve already written in the past.
