Every time that he loses his hat, drops his wallet, forgets something important, there\u2019s friction in his life.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-fc0e18c41e284fdd9d9bedc7c2372746\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">There\u2019s nothing wrong with forgetting things &#8211;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-acb8066bf1014e9395cc7cb206fd4ad1\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">But there ARE steps we can take to improve our memory and our relationship with it. Some of them are habits, some of them are actions, some of them are exercises, but they\u2019re all things that you can do.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-f3dc604601a64d7d9b13393f7aa568ea\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Like I said, it&#8217;s normal to forget things &#8211; but did you know that mindfulness can be the missing ingredient in creating a strong memory? \ud83e\udd14<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-ba4d5b8ae0b04366b917d0ca5f942cb0\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">When you don&#8217;t pay directed attention to something, you\u2019re more likely to forget it. This is why we lose stuff like keys or cards &#8211; because we touch them briefly and don&#8217;t attach a specific memory to them.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-91c99f2b6dd143e69f41395d0621febf\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">So, start practicing mindfulness as a habit. Be conscious of your surroundings and what is happening around you. You\u2019ll lose your shit less and less often. \ud83e\uddd8\u200d\u2640\ufe0f<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-38fcf6a82dc24d5999a737691892d2dd\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">As far as exercises go that you can do now &#8211; stress can have a really negative impact on our memory.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-96973c935f0f40e9b3a2f7932bf5842f\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Chronic stress can lead to the release of cortisol and other hormones that can have a physical impact on our memory.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-ab1cbbe434274fa78b27db97af1658e3\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">When someone uses the concept of \u201ctrauma\u201d, we\u2019re not just talking about emotional pain. It\u2019s also the chemical impact it has on our memory. Trauma can create false memories, make us forget details, and have long-term consequences on the mind.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-e2a00e988f2c454b830f7299f99fcd35\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Now odds are good that I\u2019m not going to convince you to \u201chave less stress\u201d via a post, but &#8211; what are some things you can do to improve your situation right now?<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-4526f691b1144110a971c5ec4fbbd4d6\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Here\u2019s something that I learned got from a YouTube channel, and it\u2019s an exercise that you can try now:<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-a85b3d06edb84cdab55d984bd440d0a0\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Find a comfortable place and have a seat (you might already be on your way with this one).<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<ul class=\"notion-bulleted-list\">\n<li id=\"block-841948082b744dc3ab8517a292160ed3\" class=\"notion-list-item\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Close your eyes. Focus on your breathing.<\/span><\/li>\n<li id=\"block-29de97c95ec44509a4a88eb994d87c9c\" class=\"notion-list-item\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Inhale for four seconds.<\/span><\/li>\n<li id=\"block-b7ba85dd54344e54896d506c3573d944\" class=\"notion-list-item\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Hold your breath for five seconds.<\/span><\/li>\n<li id=\"block-ce9889ce3dc74ae1a8ff87f3002141ef\" class=\"notion-list-item\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Exhale for six seconds.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"block-abed5a09cb79497f820d8656a1113aaa\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">The 4-5-6 technique is a breathing exercise that stimulates the vagus nerve, which controls a lot of your body\u2019s anxiety functions. If you spend two minutes doing this, you\u2019ll feel a difference.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-af48650d30f34372abe37b5dbcb4486a\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">\ud83d\udca4Sleep is essential for our brain! Even when we&#8217;re asleep, things are happening in our bodies. If we don&#8217;t get enough sleep, we&#8217;ll wake up feeling sluggish, have trouble starting the day, have spillover in to the next day.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-247f61bf782040ceafe8475485e91d42\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Have you ever woken up feeling like that? \ud83e\udd14<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-7f14310821a34526830540a99dd41cb1\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Yeah, probably. But it&#8217;s hard to specifically remember days like that &#8211; because our long-term memory struggles to retain these memories. But sleep is how we record memories, so if we don&#8217;t get enough, our memories from the past become harder to retain in the future.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-261ca80294bc46b6a9dfc9888d9b0368\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Focus on what you want to achieve with your brain and remember that it&#8217;s an organ like any other that needs care and attention, even if you\u2019re not able to put your eyes on it. \ud83e\uddd8\u200d\u2642\ufe0f<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-1a6a8b0396f24617ac702ced716956ae\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Finally &#8211; associations.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-3cdc051350414532b76225d55a073807\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Mental associations make things easier. Just like the song that teaches us the ABCs. By focusing on something, we strengthen our neural connections and optimize our ability to recall it\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-6eb0c513fa1c4be7ac207540a7a49714\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Which is why writing is so tied to memory. Don&#8217;t overlook its power to build neural pathways and enhance your daily experiences.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-57dfa610ffe4409bb3a94237ab61eedb\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">And remember, journaling doesn&#8217;t have to be complicated or fancy. I keep entries in Notion and they\u2019re like\u2026 couple paragraphs.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-acc05fbd1cdf43dbbba5eb57239537fe\" class=\"notion-text\">\n<p class=\"notion-text__content\"><span class=\"notion-semantic-string\">Just like meditation, the goal is to simply do it consistently.
