If you’re interested in getting into life coaching and sharing your journey, congratulations.
You’re embarking on an exciting journey that can be both rewarding and profitable.
But remember that nobody is beating down your door because they think they need a coach. There's a series of revelations that you'll need to walk people through, to get them from a state of unhappiness to a state of being empowered, prepared, and eager to solve their problems. So in order to bring things to scale, you're going to need a few basic steps in place.
You’ll Need to Be Organized and Have a Clear Plan
First and foremost, you need to be organized and have a clear plan.
This is crucial if you want to stay on track and achieve your goals.
So, what is that state that you want to get people in?
Define your audience and what their pain points are. This is something you'll either get through intake forms, onboarding chats, or real conversations with clients. But this is going to be the very base of what your messaging is.
Then you want a clear offer – this doesn't really need to be an “official” document, but a presentation of about 5-10 minutes. A LOT of coaches do intro stories in the style of Toastmasters… think of a stump speech of this length that's focused on getting people in the door based on their pain points.
Take time to map out a comprehensive plan outlining everything from your services to how you’ll market yourself – what platforms do you want to be on?
This will help you stay focused and avoid feeling overwhelmed.
You’ll Need to Build a Strong Network and Create Valuable Content
Next, you must create valuable content to attract your target audience. Start writing and figure out the details later. Content is really king here, and because this market is so large, I'd suggest you create your curriculum in any format that allows you to publish regularly. It goes without saying that the more PERSONALIZED and USEFUL your content is, the better, so take your time.
Obviously, you'll need a strong network of clients and partners. This means developing relationships with other professionals in the industry so that you can refer clients back and forth when needed. You should also consider joining online groups or communities that focus on your niche to connect with potential clients.
Get Your Technology As Seamless As Possible
Your technology is really important – it's a representation of how your customers are going to interact with you – how easily they can commune with you and get those results they want. So you'll need to be comfortable using different tools and platforms to reach your target market. Website, social media, communications like Zoom or Google Meet, you'll need it all.
You’ll Need to Be Marketing Savvy
Marketing and traffic are basically mandatory. If you're really patient, you can use SEO or content marketing. In this world of social media, vertical video from either you or potential clients is the most powerful way to make those connections at scale.
We're a little biased, but the results speak for themselves.
And finally, remember that you're going to spend a lot of energy on clients. You need to be responsive. This means being available to your clients when they need you and responding to them – you don't have to hover over your inbox but making those weekly meetings would be cool.
You should also take the time to get to know your clients on a personal level so that you can provide personalized and attentive care. Building strong relationships with your clients is key to your success as a life coach.
It’s essential to have a clear plan in place, build a strong network of clients and partners, use technology effectively, be marketing savvy, and be responsive and personable with your clients. Success takes time, effort, and patience, but with the right partner, it's something you can achieve.
